Referrals

A referral code is a string of text that is assigned to cardholders. It is used to track referrals made by our cardholders.
You can refer your friends by providing them with your referral code or the email address associated with your account.
Referral codes are provided online and by email when you enroll for a card. Once you complete your enrollment, you can begin referring friends right away, even before you receive your card in the mail.
Your referral code will never change.
You can find your referral code by logging into your account on the My Account website. Your referral code will be on the dashboard, which is the first page you see after you log in.
If someone referred you but you forgot his or her referral code, you can use his or her email address instead. If that doesn’t work, you can add his or her referral code when you activate your card.

If nobody referred you, you do not need a referral code to get a card.
There is no limit to the number of people you can refer.
Yes, FriendSpend Rewards is based on the Qualified Purchases of your Spending Squad. You will not earn FriendSpend Rewards if you do not refer anyone.

It is a purchase transaction for which you don’t enter your four-digit secure PIN code. Almost all online purchases are non-PIN purchases. When you are asked credit or debit in a store, the credit option is a non-PIN purchase. On the other hand, the debit option requires your four-digit secure PIN code and will not count towards FriendSpend Rewards.
The Cascade Card is only available to residents of the United States who are at least 18 years old with a verifiable social security number or ITIN and home address.
The minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
A cardholder can only be referred by one person.
It only takes one referral who completes Qualified Purchases using their Cascade Card to earn FriendSpend Rewards for you. The more people you refer, the more FriendSpend Rewards you can earn.
Your referrals only need to refer others if they want to earn FriendSpend Rewards. Their referrals going out a total of six generations (including your direct referrals as generation one) will also build up more FriendSpend Rewards for you.
Your referral code cannot be changed.
Referral codes are meant to be shared with other people who want a card. Each person who gets a card will also get their own referral code to share.
You cannot make up your own referral code. Referral codes are randomly assigned only at the time a Cascade Card is ordered.
Yes, you can post your referral code on your own or you can use the tools on the Cascade Card website or through the Cascade Card Mobile App (when available). Please only use approved text when you share your referral code. You can find approved text on the Cascade Card website or the Cascade Card Mobile App (when available).

You can send individual emails to your contacts as long as they are not being sent as part of a bulk email blast. In general, you cannot send bulk emails with your referral code. Only upon receiving prior written approval from Cascade Card, bulk emails may be sent to approved opt-in lists in accordance to CAN-Spam regulations. You can submit your request to support@cascadecard.com.

No, you cannot advertise your referral code.
No you cannot create a website that advertises your referral code.
Your referral code can become inactive if your Cascade Card account is closed or if your participation in the FriendSpend Rewards program is terminated.
Once you receive your referral code and complete your enrollment, you can start referring people to get a Cascade Card. You do not need to wait until you receive a card to start referring cardholders and building your Spending Squad.
No, you do not have to have 6 generations of referrals before you can start earning FriendSpend Rewards. It only takes one referral who completes Qualified Purchases to start earning FriendSpend Rewards.
Your Spending Squad includes the cardholders who build up your FriendSpend Rewards for you by completing Qualified Purchases with their Cascade Cards each month. The first generation of your Spending Squad includes all of the cardholders that you personally referred. The second generation consists of all the cardholders who were referred by your first generation. Your entire Spending Squad includes six generations of cardholders.
You will lose your Spending Squad (which includes your referrals) if your Card Account is closed. Once you lose your Spending Squad, you will no longer be entitled to earn Rewards or Double Rewards based on the spending of the Cardholders who were in your Spending Squad. You will be able to rebuild your Spending Squad with new Cardholders if you reopen your card account or open a new card account.
No, you will not lose any referrals in your Spending Squad if someone you refer loses their referrals. Their referrals remain in your Spending Squad as long as the referrals are within 6 generations.

FriendSpend Rewards

There is no spending requirement to qualify for Regular Rewards. All you have to do is maintain your card account in active status and not have a negative balance at the end of the month.

In order to qualify to receive Double Rewards in any month, your Personal Qualified Spend in that month must equal or exceed $350.00, maintain your card account in active status, and not have a negative balance at the end of the month.
You can find your Regular Rewards and Double Rewards amounts accumulated for any previous month or up to the previous day for the current month by logging into the Cascade Card website at https://myaccount.cascadecard.com or mobile app (when available).
You begin earning FriendSpend Rewards once you activate your Cascade Card and the cardholders in your Spending Squad begin making Qualified Purchases using their Cascade Cards.
You can find your FriendSpend Rewards amount that has accumulated up to the previous day for the current calendar month by logging into the Cascade Card website at https://myaccount.cascadecard.com or mobile app (when available).
You will receive your FriendSpend Rewards in the month after you have earned FriendSpend Rewards. Your FriendSpend Rewards will typically be paid by posting a credit in the amount you have earned onto your Card Account. We may, at our option, send your FriendSpend Rewards to you via a paper check or electronic bank transfer.
Yes, you can earn more FriendSpend Rewards than you spend in a month since the amount you can earn is primarily based on the Qualified Purchases of your Spending Squad.
We reward cardholders who spread the word about the Cascade Card. You build up FriendSpend Rewards based on the Qualified Purchases of your Spending Squad, which includes your direct and indirect referrals going out six generations.
There is no preset limit to the amount of FriendSpend Rewards that you can earn in a month.
The only way that spending more will help you earn more is to qualify for Double Rewards. In order to qualify to receive Double Rewards in any month, your Personal Qualified Spend in that month must equal or exceed $350.00.
The FriendSpend Rewards that you are eligible to earn is based on the Qualified Purchases of your Spending Squad. If absolutely nobody in your Spending Squad completes Qualified Purchases with their Cascade Card during a given month, you will not build up FriendSpend Rewards for that month. However, if the cardholders you referred begin spending in the future, then you will become eligible for the FriendSpend Rewards based on their Qualified Purchases.
You can still qualify for Regular Rewards if you don’t spend $350 in Qualified Purchases in a month. If, however, you spend at least $350 in Qualified Purchases in a month, then you can qualify for Double Rewards.
Your referral will only be eligible for Regular Rewards in any month where his or her spending is less than $350 in Qualified Purchases. At the same time, any Qualified Purchases they do have, even if it is below $350, will still count towards your FriendSpend Rewards.
FriendSpend Rewards is calculated based on the Qualified Purchases of six generations of cardholders who got the Cascade Card as a result of you spreading the word (i.e. your Spending Squad). When all those cardholders are spending money on their Cascade Cards each month, your FriendSpend Rewards can grow and grow.
Businesses that accept MasterCard as a form of payment for non-PIN purchases pay a fee called interchange. With the Cascade Card, we use the interchange fee to pay FriendSpend Rewards to our cardholders.
You can earn FriendSpend Rewards on all of the Qualified Purchases of your Spending Squad. PIN based purchases are not eligible for FriendSpend Rewards.
It is a purchase for which you enter your four-digit secure PIN code. You can use your Cascade Card for PIN based purchases, but it is not recommended because PIN based purchases do not generate FriendSpend Rewards. So, when you are asked credit or debit at a store, you should choose credit so that the amount you spend is eligible for FriendSpend Rewards.
In the event that your Cascade Card Account is closed for a reason that is not due to default or fraud and you have earned FriendSpend Rewards you haven’t yet received, that FriendSpend Rewards will be sent to you via a paper check or electronic funds transfer.
Due to laws that protect consumer privacy, we are not allowed to share with you this kind of personal financial information about other cardholders. However, the FriendSpend Rewards program is administered and audited by Cascade Financial Technology Corp (“Cascade”) and monitored by Sunrise Banks. Cascade has developed a tracking system that analyzes all completed Qualified Purchases and ensures that the FriendSpend Rewards generated by each purchase is allocated correctly to cardholders. Cascade has built-in “checks and balances” to ensure that all FriendSpend Rewards computed is accurate and timely.

While the FriendSpend Rewards program is not a Sunrise Bank product or service, nor does Sunrise Banks endorse this offer, Sunrise Banks and Cascade do a few things to ensure that every cardholder and participating organization gets paid the correct amount of FriendSpend Rewards:

  • Sunrise Banks and Cascade monitor the FriendSpend Rewards tracking;
  • Sunrise Banks and Cascade audit the FriendSpend Rewards program operations; and
  • Sunrise Banks holds all of the money allocated to FriendSpend Rewards until that money is loaded onto cards or otherwise sent to the cardholders and participating organizations who earned it.

Does My Purchase Count

Purchases made with your 16-digit MasterCard account number, excluding purchase transactions where a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) was used and purchases categorized as cash or quasi-cash. We also refer to these as non-PIN purchases with your card.
We get the money to pay FriendSpend Rewards from the interchange fees that we earn. We don’t pay rewards on transactions that don’t generate enough interchange to pay FriendSpend Rewards.

You can verify if a particular transaction counted towards FriendSpend Rewards by logging into the My Account website and go to the Card Activity page.
Non-PIN means that you didn’t use your secret four-digit PIN code for the transaction. Transactions completed on the Internet or over the phone are almost always non-PIN.
Purchase means that the transaction was classified as a purchase based on the vendor’s merchant account. Typically, with a purchase you receive a product or service in exchange for the payment. Some things that are typically not classified as purchases include loan payments, mortgage payments, car note (i.e. car loan) payments, credit card payments, ATM withdrawals, card to bank transfers, card to card transfers, and any transaction that is classified as cash or quasi-cash.
With your card means that you used your 16-digit card number to make the purchase. Any purchase that was made using your Routing and DDA numbers* do not count towards FriendSpend Rewards.

* These purchases are limited to $2.00 per transaction and $20.00 per month.
Typically, a mortgage payment will not count towards FriendSpend Rewards as they are not classified as a purchase. These transactions are usually considered a cash or quasi-cash transaction. Typically, with a purchase you receive a product or service in exchange for the payment.

You can verify if a particular transaction counted towards FriendSpend Rewards by logging into the My Account website and go to the Card Activity page.
Sometimes a rent payment will count towards FriendSpend Rewards and sometimes it won’t. It depends whether or not the rent is classified as a purchase or as a cash or quasi-cash transaction. As a general rule, if you are paying a third party who charges you a fee and then sends the money to your landlord, the transaction will not count.

Examples of bill payments that will typically count towards FriendSpend Rewards are insurance bills, cell phone bills, utility bills, electric bills, water bills, gas bills, and cable/satellite bills using your 16-digit card number.

One way to look at it is if you are paying a bill for a previous purchase of a product or service, that bill will typically not count. Examples of this is a mortgage (previous purchase of house), car note (previous purchase of a car), credit card (previous purchases) or a loan (the loan proceeds may have been used to make a purchase).

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?

No, the Cascade Card is not a Pyramid Scheme. One of the hallmarks of an illegal Pyramid Scheme is that it promises large profits based on the recruitment of others to join the program. The money in these schemes is made by the mere act of recruiting new members. With the Cascade Card, you are not paid any money simply by recruiting additional cardholders. The only way you can receive FriendSpend Rewards is if the cardholders that you refer make non-PIN purchases using their own cards. A program in which there is no compensation for recruitment would not be a Pyramid Scheme.

Another indicator of a Pyramid Scheme is an exorbitant registration fee. The Cascade Card has an initial registration fee of only $0.00 to $6.99 which is well within the industry standards for prepaid card programs. For a full schedule of fees pertaining to the Cascade Card please see the cardholder terms and conditions for more information regarding fee practices in the prepaid industry please see this report published by Consumer Reports.
The Federal Trade Commission has indicated that the critical question in its analysis in determining the existence of a pyramid scheme “is whether the revenues that primarily support the commissions paid to all participants are generated from purchases of goods and services that are not simply incidental to the purchase of the right to participate in the money-making venture.” Staff Advisory Opinion - Pyramid Scheme Analysis, Federal Trade Commission (January 14, 2004). Where the compensation system is funded primarily by payments made for the right to participate in the venture, it is an illegal pyramid scheme.

With the Cascade Card, the money to pay FriendSpend Rewards doesn’t come from the fees you pay to have or use the card. Instead, the money comes from the interchange fee that is paid by merchants who accept MasterCard. Therefore, the Program would not be deemed to be a pyramid scheme.
No, the Cascade Card is not Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). MLM has been described as a way of distributing products or services in a way in which the distributors earn income not only from their own sales, but the sales made from their direct and indirect recruits. The distributors in an MLM earn commissions based on their own sales and those of the people they recruit. With the Cascade Card FriendSpend Rewards Program, we do not distribute any products or services (other than the Cascade Card), and you are not making any commissions that are derived on the sale of any goods or services that we sell.

Another distinction is that in a multilevel marketing program, the commissions paid are for sales of products and services. With the Cascade Card FriendSpend Rewards Program, you are not compensated for your own purchases or for referring others to get a Cascade Card and you have no influence over any purchases made by any cardholders that you directly or indirectly referred. Although the amount of FriendSpend Rewards that you may be eligible to earn is based on the spending of the cardholders which you have directly or indirectly referred, there is no requirement that those cardholders purchase from any specific product or service providers. This is another indicator that the Cascade Card FriendSpend Rewards Program is not a multilevel marketing program.
No, the Cascade Card FriendSpend Rewards Program is not a business opportunity. Instead, it is simply an incentive that you may or may not choose to be involved in. Further, there is not an investment being made by you or any cardholder. There is a one-time initial cost of $0.00 to $6.99 to obtain the Cascade Card and a monthly service fee of $4.99 to maintain the card (waived if $750.00 or more is loaded onto your card during the previous month), and these fees are well within the industry standards for prepaid cards. For a full schedule of fees pertaining to the Cascade Card, please see the full fee schedule in the cardholder terms and conditions and for more information regarding fee practices in the prepaid industry please see this report published by Consumer Reports.
The real secret behind the Cascade Card FreindSpend Rewards is best compared to the difference between geometric and exponential progression. With geometric progression, you would earn FriendSpend Rewards based on how much you spend. With exponential progression, you earn FriendSpend Rewards on how much your Spending Squad spends. Since your Spending Squad includes your direct and indirect referrals going out 6 generations, the amount spent can grow exponentially.

After you activate your Cascade Card, the best way to add money onto your card is to set up direct deposit of your paycheck. Take the direct deposit information (which you can find on the My Account section of our website) to your employer to have your paycheck automatically put on your card each payday. You can also add money to your card by linking a checking or savings account. You can do this by logging into the My Account section of our website and go the Load Funds section. You can also load with cash at retail locations that are part of the MasterCard rePower Load Network. You can learn more about loading with cash here.
The MasterCard rePower Load Network is a service from MasterCard that allows you to add funds to your Cascade Card at participating merchants. This service is currently available only in the U.S. You can get more details here.
Simply visit a participating retailer with the cash you want to load onto your card. At those locations, your card is swiped and the load amount is entered at the register. You will be provided a receipt that states the amount added, your load fee, and, at some participating merchants, your updated card balance. Your cash load will be instantly available. Make sure that you keep you receipt until you verify the funds were properly loaded on your card.
